da Vinci Robotic Surgery

da Vinci Robotic Assisted Surgical System

Through the use of a console, da Vinci® trained surgeons use their hands to guide precise surgical instruments. They also have a high-definition camera at their disposal, which magnifies the surgical region up to 10x what the human eye sees, giving them a view of the operating area that is exceptional.

This robotic-assisted system offers doctors a greater range of motion as the machine translates each movement of your doctor in real time. Scalability simplifies each motion your doctor makes to be even smoother, meaning the operating system is calibrated to translate a one-inch movement by your doctor into a quarter-inch movement by the machine. Because of this, complex surgical actions such as suturing, knot-tying, and removals, are much more efficient.

Benefits for Gynecological Procedures

A review of published studies suggests that potential benefits of a hysterectomy for cancer with da Vinci technology include*:
⦁ Compared to patients who had an open procedure, patients who had a hysterectomy with da Vinci experienced fewer complications and stayed in the hospital for less time.
⦁ Compared to patients who had a laparoscopic procedure, patients who had a hysterectomy with da Vinci had fewer, or similar, complications and stayed in the hospital for the same, or less, time.
⦁ Surgeons may switch to an open procedure when doing a procedure with da Vinci with the same likelihood, or possibly less, compared to a laparoscopic surgery.

Benefits for Kidney Procedures

A review of published studies suggests that potential benefits of a partial nephrectomy with da Vinci technology include*:
⦁ Patients may experience fewer overall complications than patients who had open or laparoscopic surgery.
⦁ Patients may stay in the hospital for a shorter amount of time than patients who had open surgery or shorter, or similar, time than patients who had laparoscopic surgery.
⦁ Patients may experience less pain than patients who had open surgery.
⦁ Surgeons may be less likely, or with similar likelihood, to switch to an open procedure when performing surgery with da Vinci, compared to when performing laparoscopic surgery.

Benefits for Prostate Procedures

A review of published studies suggests that potential benefits of a radical prostatectomy with da Vinci technology include*:
⦁ Patients may experience similar, or sometimes faster, return of erectile function than patients who had open surgery.
⦁ Patients may experience similar, or sometimes faster, return of urinary continence than patients who had open within 6 months of surgery.
⦁ When compared to patients who had open surgery, patients undergoing surgery with da Vinci may have less chance of being readmitted to the hospital after leaving.
⦁ Patients may experience similar or fewer complications after surgery compared to patients who had open surgery.
⦁ Patients may stay in the hospital for a shorter amount of time than patients who had open surgery.

Benefits for Colorectal Procedures

A review of published studies suggests that potential benefits of a colectomy with da Vinci technology include*:
⦁ Compared to patients who had open surgery, patients who had robotic surgery had fewer complications and a shorter length of hospital stay.
⦁ Patients may experience fewer overall complications than patients who had open or laparoscopic surgery.
⦁ Compared to patients who had a laparoscopic procedure, patients who had a robotic colectomy had fewer complications, shorter hospital stays, and a lower rate of conversion to open surgery.
⦁ Compared to patients who had laparoscopic or open procedures, patients who had robotic surgery had higher lymph node yield and radicality of mesenteric resection, potentially offering better cancer treatment outcomes.
